Courtney Shanade Salter, better known by her stage name of Ari Lennox, is an American musician and singer who hails from Washington, D.C., who was the first woman to sign with J. Cole's Dreamville Records record label. In the month of October Ari Lennox debuted her EP Pho. The EP was where she gained recognition. Shea Butter Baby, her debut album, was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading music to the Internet in 2012 after she dropped her first mixtape Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in 2013. In 2014, she dropped more music via the Internet including Bound. The song was included in Omen's Elephant Eyes, from Sweat It Out, on the 21st of July the 21st of July, 2015. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew back then was interested in having her work on Rihanna references. The news was released on the 8th of December that she had signed with Dreamville Records. Backseat is one of the songs she recorded with Cozz on the album collaboratively titled Revenge of the Dreamers II. In October 21, 2016, the artist released her debut album titled Pho. Ari Lennox then appeared as the opening performer for J. Cole on his single Change in 2017 and also performed on 4 Your Eyez Only Tour. In 2018, she appeared as a guest performer on two songs, with the EarthGang's Nothing but the Best song as well as Bas's Icarus. On the 16th of July in 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single, Whipped Cream of her album debut Shea Butter Baby with an accompanying music video that was released on the 5th of September. On November 9, she released two additional singles: forty Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. On November 13 two new singles, titled One and Pedigree. One and pedigree. Shea Butter Baby was released on her debut single, February 26, 2019, for the album Creed II. Shea Butter Baby performed with Cole on the Creed II sound track on the 16th of November. A music video was released on 20 February 2019 in conjunction with the song. Within the first period of a week, the video had more than 3 million views. In December of 2018, she was part of the From East Atlanta With Love Tour featuring 6LACK.
